So you’ve had your bespoke invitation suite designed, & you’re ready to purchase some badass wedding envelopes to house your precious biddings of brilliance, delivering them safely & tastefully into the hands of their receivers.
In other words, you need something to perfectly compliment your invites, that’s also affordable & durable, yeah? Yeah.
To help you on your quest, we’ve been kind enough to do some research. But before you get to that part, check out a few of our top tips on purchasing wedding envelopes:
You'll need to shop for envelopes that are around 120gsm/80lbs. That will insure they are both thick enough to adequately protect your invites, & also be of a decent quality; you want them to feel great in your hands.
Ensure you pick a nice colour to compliment the design of your invitation suite, to really set it off. If you aren’t sure, ask your stationery designer for advice.
Opting for a smooth finish will enable you (or your calligrapher) to write addresses with an easy, gliding stroke; anything too rough & fibrous will prove difficult.
Also consider purchasing envelopes with peal & seal flaps to save your tastebuds from yuckyness.
We highly recommend that you order a sample before you commit to buying your envelopes. That way, you can handle them for yourself, as well as write on them to understand how they'll look & feel.
Order 10-20% more envelopes to account for mistakes -we all make them!
Also consider additional extra's to make your envelopes look super special. Custom calligraphy & address printing can save you time, & will give your invitations a beautifully finished look. If you do opt for custom calligraphy, why not arrange for your envelopes to be delivered straight to your calligraphers address when purchasing them online?
If you decide to have all you addresses printed onto your envelopes, be aware that some ink may not stick to metallic & pearlescent paper. Always seek advice from the printers first.
Remember too, that however you choose to address your envelopes, always ensure you have double checked the spelling of your guests names, as well as any updates to title, relationship status etc. Also decide on whether you'll address them formally or casually. There's a whole web of address etiquette out there, so do your research before you put ink to paper.
Once you are ready to post that all-important mail, we strongly advise you to take them into your local post office & have them weighed/measured by a human. Slapping a stamp on your invites & hoping for the best may result in extra embarrassing charges for either you or your guests, yikes.
